News Flash: Steparoo spotted!

Here at Smokefree North West, the sun is shining and Spring is upon us - but we all remain a little sad because of the continued absence of our fine furry friend, Steparoo.

The plot has thickened since our resident kangaroo mascot and her little 'Roo first went awol last week.

Reports have flooded in of sightings of her and little Roo all across the North West - from Bury Market to Wigan, and the centre of Liverpool to Huyton Village shopping centre. All of which had us perplexed - especially upon learning she had been brandishing flowers to lots of unsuspecting Mums. We can't help but wonder - what is she up to?

Whilst we're relieved she's obviously ok and we think that it might have something to do with her endeavours to gently guide and help mums to make an informed choice to Take 7 Steps Out and protect their children from secondhand smoke, we are still worried by her absence.

So if you're reading this Steparoo, we have a stash of Skippy peanut butter waiting for you - just please come home soon!

  1. I'm so glad your kangaroo is ok, and my earlier predictions about steaks turned out to be incorrect.
Please ask her, while she's out and about, to keep her eye's open for Bucko the Fuel Injected Moose.
He will be gently guiding and helping mums to make an informed choice to ingnore the righteous hectoring of taxpayer funded tobacco control groups.

  2. "...we have a stash of Skippy peanut butter waiting for you..."

Isn't that fattening? Or is one of your five-a-day like ketchup, or chips?

I never can get these healthy lifestyle diktats straight in my head...

  3. My advice is to stop fretting about your kangaroo's whereabouts. Rates of absence such as this are common place in the tax-payer funded sector.

  4. I hear she has found a better form of remuneration by selling tobacco products from a white van in Birkenhead.

  5. In these times of austerity, is it really appropriate to be spending money like this on flowers to "...gently guide and help mums to make an informed choice..."?

That said, if your kangaroo makes it up as far as Accrington I could save a few quid on a present for Mother's Day, so it's not all bad.

  6. Perhaps Steparoo should take a day trip to Stony Stratford, some folk want a Smokefree Milton Keynes down there.

  7. Just so long as your Kangeroo stays over in Lancashire with is nannying fussbucketry...if that's OK, we prefer personal choice here.

  8. Steparoo has been seen in the s South East just travelling back from it's visit to the continent to fill up it's baccy pouch.

And don't be so "cavalier" about this serious subject, Simon.

  9. "Who is paying for this nonsense?"

    The taxpayer:

Smokefree North West (SFNW) is funded by all 24 NHS Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) in the region.

    Next?

  10. I can't believe people rail against the injection of a little fun into what otherwise is a very serious subject. I'm proposing to increase what I spend on anti-smoking because, unlike some of the commentators here, I know best. I believe I have a duty to hector people with filthy habits. They really ought to listen to people who know what's good for them, if they know what's good for them. So I'm going to voluntarily pay a percentage of my income towards anti tobacco projects.
Oh no, it seems I already do. Hmmmm
